A MODERN UNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE
“Heroic Women in the Bible”

Instructor: Rabbi David L. Blumenfeld

Our session will explore the lives of a number of remarkable women in the Bible – Devorah, Esther, Ruth, Rahab, Yael and so many more. By applying up-to-date scholarship to the biblical text, a deeper understanding of their vital role in the destiny of the Jewish People will be examined.

All are welcome. Knowledge of Hebrew is not required.

About the Instructor:

Rabbi David Blumenfeld

Rabbi David L. Blumenfeld (Ph.D., DHL) was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary. He is a graduate of Brandeis University, and studied Comparative Religion at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He received his Ph.D. degree from New York University in the field of Near Eastern Languages and Literature and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree, “honoris causa” from JTS.

Rabbi Blumenfeld served as spiritual leader of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Glen Cove, NY. He afterwards served with distinction as the Founding Executive Director of the New York Holocaust Memorial Commission that created the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park (N.Y.C.).
