Scholar-in-Residence: Professor Stephen J. Whitfield
“The Case for Jewish Culture”

This lecture will be an overview of the value of American Jewish culture as a way of fortifying Jewish life itself and perpetuating it in an affirmative and appreciative way.

Professor Stephen J. Whitfield holds the Max Richter Chair in American Civilization at Brandeis University, where he has taught since receiving his doctorate there in 1972. His B.A. is from Tulane University and his M.A. from Yale University. Trained as a historian, his curricular and research interests are primarily in the intersection of politics and ideas in the 20th century.
