“Next Generation in Commemoration of Yom Hashoah – Holocaust Memorial Day”
When asked what would prompt a retired 6th grade teacher to commit her heart and soul to NEXT GENERATIONS, Randi Posner, Chair of Educational Outreach and Programming for NEXT GENERATIONS responded, “That’s easy; it’s the right thing to do! After 25 years of teaching young students about the Holocaust, I knew I would have to take my responsibility for “tikkun olam”, or fixing what is wrong with the world, to another level.” When she met the passionate members of NEXT GENERATIONS, she knew she found her new definition of retirement. NEXT GENERATIONS’ mission is three-fold: to raise money for Holocaust survivors in need, “tzedakah”, to develop and implement lessons from the Holocaust and apply them to the world today, and now, to understand the characteristics that have been transmitted through trans-generational trauma. When Randi married her husband Izzy, she became the daughter-in-law of two survivors. Through their first-hand stories, as well as the stories of the many survivors she has met, Randi has come to understand the necessity to teach students and adults how to prevent hatred, intolerance, genocide and anti-Semitism. As the survivors age, their needs become more acute and necessity to ensure they live their remaining years in dignity and comfort is a responsibility fundamental to her organization. “We are so blessed to be living in a nation that was founded on religious freedom and acceptance; we must continue to nurture those actions going forward. We have made a promise to the millions of victims of the Holocaust to ensure that their cries and voices would reach future generations and never be forgotten. NEVER AGAIN!”
