This book was wonderfully written as it portrays the dilemma facing an older woman who is pregnant and lives (on Division Street) within the circumscribed life of a Chassidic Community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Surie decides to keep her mid-life pregnancy secret while she examines how tightly woven and limited her choices are as a woman who lives within the confines of this judgemental world. The author shows real compassion and understanding of Surie’s dilemma.
