Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach is committed to the Jewish tradition of Tikkun Olam - Repairing the World. To that end, the congregation is engaged in a number of projects - both locally and globally - in an effort to make a difference.
Recycling
At Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach, we recycle all of the paper, glass and plastic products used by the synagogue office.
We also use recycled paper for as much of our printed materials, as possible.
In an effort to reduce the use of paper, we increasingly rely on electronic correspondence via email.
Food Collection
In support of the Alpert Jewish Family & Children's Services food program, Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach regularly collects packaged dry goods for donation. Members and guests are encouraged to deliver food items to one of the several food collection bins in the synagogue's lobbies.
Rainforest Parking Meter
Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach is partnering with The Center for Ecosystem Survival and The Nature Conservancy to support habitat protection in the Rincon Rainforest in Costa Rica. Members, guests and school children visiting the Temple simply feed the colorful 'Parking Meter' with the loose change in their pocket!
The Rincon Rainforest is an isolated 4,500 hectare patch of pristine old-growth forest and rivers at risk of logging and development. This project will help provide the funds needed to make it part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area and thus permanently protected.
Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach proudly supports the sacred work of Hazon Yeshaya. With over 20 percent of Israel's population living at or below the poverty level, Hazon Yeshaya Soup Kitchens serve a vital role by serving over 400,000 hot meals every month at over 60 locations.
