Charitable Giving: Outright Gifts
|
In the eyes of Judaism, tzedakah (charity) is a religious imperitive. At tax time, charity is rewarded because our nation’s laws continue to provide tangible incentives for charitable gifts.
GIFTS OF STOCK: A gift of appreciated securities may be a fast and easy way of supporting the Temple while deriving considerable tax benefits. It is almost always a better tax strategy to transfer appreciated securities directly to the Temple, rather than selling them and donating the proceeds of the sale. In fact, many people find that the tax benefits associated with donating appreciated securities actually allow them to increase the size of their gift.
The Congregation maintains a separate brokerage account to facilitate stock gifts.
GRANTS FROM DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS: Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach is recognized as a 501(c)(3) charity and, therefore, is eligible for contributions through a gift from donor-advised funds. All gifts received through donor-advised funds are acknowledged both to the grant-making fund and to the donor who recommended the donation.
GRANTS FROM FOUNDATIONS: Because Temple Emanu-El of Palm Beach is recognized as a 501(c)(3) charity, contributions to the Temple also may be made through foundations. All gifts are acknowledged both to the foundation and to the individual donor(s).
MATCHING GIFTS: Pledging through an employer’s matching gift program may double or triple a donation’s value. A quick check with your employer can determine if they have a program in place.
